Research Interests

My research interests is broadly centred around how the mitochondria, the so-called powerhouse of the cell, can become dysregulated during different diseases and the impact this has on metabolism and energy regulation in general. I am particularly interested in liver pathologies, and how dysregulation in the liver can integrate with metabolic diseases across other organ systems. Currently I am researching the bioenergetic and metabolic consequences of citrin deficiency, a pan-ethic in-born error of metabolism with a poorly understood disease aetiology. Our research aims to understand how different mutations in the citrin protein can lead to a the wide variety of phenotypes seen in the disease.
