Downing’s Women’s Football Team is a fun, friendly team that welcomes women of all abilities.

The time commitment is very low, with optional training and fitness for one hour a week, and a one-hour match typically every Saturday during Michaelmas and Lent.

Training sessions are very relaxed, and aim to help a player pick up basic ball skills to use in matches. Downing are fast establishing themselves on the pitch, making it to the final of The Plate for the last two years, and were promoted to Division 2 for the 2015/2016 season.

The biggest reason we hear for women not wanting to give football a go is that they do not think they will be good enough. However, over half of our team every year are new to football, and everyone gets to play matches regardless of experience or ability. Downing’s relaxed attitude on the pitch always makes for a fun and entertaining match.

The social side of the team includes swaps with other clubs, socials at the Prince Regent, and pizza nights. The team is an ideal way to get some exercise and socialise with a lovely group of girls. We encourage both new and existing members of the College to come and give football a try.
