College bills

Any fees due must be paid at the beginning of each Term; this includes any portion of tuition fees for which you are responsible. All undergraduates must pay the Termly rent by the first Wednesday of Michaelmas Full Term and the first Wednesday of Lent and Easter Full Terms. Postgraduate students must make these payments quarterly in advance. Amounts billed during the course of the Michaelmas and Lent Terms will be payable by the first Wednesday following the beginning of Full Term. Amounts billed during the course of the Easter Term will be payable by 31 July, except in your final year when settlement of an estimated bill is a condition which must be met before you can graduate.

It is impossible to specify the total cost for any individual student as this can vary widely depending on the subject read and other circumstances. Students from overseas should remember that they will have to pay higher University fees than do students from the United Kingdom and from European Union countries by reason of legislation presently in force.

If, for any reason, you are unable to pay your College bill in full by the specified date you should immediately consult your Tutor who, in some circumstances, may be able to help you by arranging a College grant or by obtaining assistance from certain funds administered by the University. The College reserves the right not to permit any student to return into residence at the beginning of an academic year if the student has not paid all amounts owing directly to the College or amounts which the College collects as agents for the University.

If you do not settle your account by the date specified on the College bill, the College may prevent you from continuing your studies, using College facilities, being resident in College accommodation, or being offered College accommodation in the future.  If at the end of an academic year, you owe residential or other charges to the College, you will not be allowed back into College-owned accommodation until and unless that debt is settled.  The College may refuse to provide you with a reference and reserves its right to mention non-payment of debts  in any reference that you request.  If you have an outstanding account at the time of Graduation, then the College may prohibit you from graduating in person.  If that debt relates to tuition fees, then you will not receive a formal degree certificate. If you are experiencing financial difficulties, please see your Tutor at the earliest opportunity.

How is my College bill payment allocated

Payments are allocated against your College bill in the following order:

  • College charges relating to accommodation
  • Other College charges
  • College tuition fees
  • University tuition fees

This means that, should there be any shortfall in funds for the payment of your College bill, then your University tuition fee payments may be impacted.

How to pay

Payment can be made by a transfer directly into the College bank account using the bank details found at the bottom of the bill.  Direct debit payments are available for Undergraduate students (please see section below).  Payment by UK debit card or by cheque can be arranged on request.

Students with an international bank account or card can pay their College bill through TransferMate in their own currency, with no currency conversion fees and with beneficial exchange rates.

TransferMate: what are the benefits?

Tuition fee

Undergraduates

The College collects the student contribution towards the annual cost of tuition on behalf of the University. This fee is due in advance at the beginning of each of the three terms on a 25%/25%/50% basis, except for overseas students where the fee is due in one instalment at the beginning of the Michaelmas Term. Home and EU students are referred to the Government's Student Finance website for the most up-to-date information for fee support. For overseas students the fee is set at a fixed annual amount for the duration of the course.

All Home and EU students who are applying to Student Finance for a tuition fee loan, must send a copy of their University or College Payment Advice for 2023/24 to the Tutorial & Admissions Office as soon as they receive it and in any case not later than 25 August 2023 so that the first installment of any tuition fees or other payments due may be billed correctly.

Postgraduates

The College collects the student contribution towards the annual cost of tuition on behalf of the University. One-third of the fee is due in advance at the beginning of each of the three terms, except for overseas students where the fee is due in one instalment at the beginning of the Michaelmas Term. Subsequent fee instalments, together with all other items charged to your account during the previous Term, and any rent payable in advance, will be due on the following dates:

Michaelmas Term: 11 October 2023
Lent Term: 17 January 2024
Easter Term: 24 April 2024
