Meet the Admissions and Widening Participation Team 

Here at Downing, we have five members of staff dedicated to Admissions and Widening Participation. 

Dr Kamran Yunus (Director of Admissions) 

As Director of Admissions, Dr Yunus oversees decision-making on Undergraduate applications to the College, along with leading Widening Participation strategy. Dr Yunus is also the Director of Studies in Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology at Downing College. 

Dr Michael Ashby (Deputy Director of Admissions) 

As Deputy Director of Admissions, Dr Ashby works with and deputises for Dr Yunus in overseeing decision-making on Undergraduate applications to the College, along with leading Widening Participation strategy. Dr Ashby is also the Director of Studies in Economics at Downing College. 

Dr Sarah Westwood (Admissions Officer) 

Sarah oversees all Undergraduate Admissions at Downing College. From processing applications to liaising with interviewers, Sarah ensures applicants are supported and well-informed throughout the application process. Sarah also oversees Widening Participation activities conducted by the College.

Teodor Wator (School and College Liaison Officer)

Teodor joined Downing in July 2026 and supports Widening Participation programmes in College. 

Steph Cracknell (Tutorial and Admissions Administrator) 

Steph works with both current students and prospective students, supporting Tutorial and Admissions matters. Steph provides significant support to the Admissions Team in busy periods, from University Open Days to Admissions rounds.
