Arts & Humanities Residential

Sunday 21 June to Thursday 25 June 2020

The Art & Humanities Residential is a fantastic opportunity for students currently in year 10 or 11 who are interested in studying these subjects’ areas at the University of Cambridge. Students will stay at Downing College, for 5 days and have a first-hand experience of student life at College. The residential will be filled with taster lectures, subject classes, museum visits and interactive workshops. The aim of the residential is to provide students with a wider insight into a range of topics and their opportunities in Higher Education.

Potential activities may include:

  • Oxbridge explained
  • Mini taster talks
  • Subjects included: History, English, Classics, Linguistics, History of Art, Philosophy, Theology, Languages, Asian and Middle Eastern Studies, and Anglo-Saxon, Norse and Celtic
  • Escape from the museum
  • Art gallery critical thinking workshop
  • University library session
  • Subject debate
  • A level choices and careers workshop
  • Q&A with current students
  • Sports activities
  • Formal dinner  

This is a free event for participants and travel support, meals and accommodation will be provided to ensure everyone is able to participate.

How to apply

To apply for this event you must be:

  • A current year 10 or 11 student in the UK
  • Be able to achieve A*AA at A level or equivalent

Students who meet any of the below criteria will be prioritised:

  • No parental history of higher education
  • Current state school student
  • Currently or previously living under local authority care
  • Eligible for Free School Meals (currently, or in the previous six years)
  • IMD deciles 1-3
  • School/college progression rates to higher education
  • Disability/extenuating circumstances which has affected study
  • Ethnicity: BME students
  • Young carer
  • POLAR 4 classification 1 or 2
