Power of the collective: Alumni gifts fund bursary

Downing alums recently demonstrated the impact of collective giving, raising more than £3,500 - enough to fund a full one‑year bursary for a new Downing student matriculating in October 2026.

The donations were made as part of the College’s Annual Reunion Dinner celebrations, as we welcomed back alums who matriculated in a year ending in ‘6’ to mark their anniversaries and reconnect with their contemporaries.

These gifts are a testament to the enduring connection our alumni feel with Downing, and it is wonderful to see their dedication to supporting future generations. The generosity of the Downing community is greatly valued, and I thank everyone who has contributed to this bursary, which will have a real and lasting impact on its recipient,” said Professor Graham Virgo KC (Hon), Master.

A total of 180 alumni returned to Downing to celebrate the Annual Reunion Dinner, making it one of the busiest reunions held in recent years.

Don Kehoe (1976), who attended the dinner and contributed to the bursary, said; “Thank you for the opportunity to contribute to this reunion bursary. When I was at Downing, generous support allowed me to fully enjoy my time. Every Downing student should have the chance to love it as I did, without the distraction of financial anxiety.”
