Downing College Music Society presents virtual May Week concert

This week the Downing College Music Society (DCMS) showcased a variety of music made during lockdown by the musicians of Downing with their virtual May Week Concert.

Downing student and DCMS President Hannah Harding said, "With Easter term being conducted remotely, DCMS wanted to make sure that we could still celebrate all the fantastic music made by members of the College even when separated geographically. As I’m sure many of us have personally experienced, making music even in the most casual settings at home is a way to enjoy ourselves away from the hassle and stress produced by the exceptional circumstances of lockdown, whether that’s escaping our newsfeeds or just finding some time to engage in a hobby. It was with this in mind that we asked members of college to send in video clips of any music-making they’ve been getting up to at home of any instrument, genre, or style. As outgoing President of the society it’s been a pleasure listening to and compiling the clips I received, and I’m glad that we have managed to produce a little bit of closure to the year that we normally celebrate through our May Week Concert and Garden Party in the Master’s Lodge. It’s also been great to see a variety of musical styles in the submissions, from Rachmaninoff to Alvin Lucier to John Mayer."

The film was premiered live on the DCMS Facebook page and is now available to view on YouTube.
