Architects Caruso St John, the firm responsible for the design of Downing College's new Heong Gallery and the redevelopment of the Dining Hall in 2009, have won the prestigious Stirling Prize for Damien Hirst's Newport Street Gallery.  The project was announced as the winner of the prestigious prize for architecture at a ceremony last night at the Royal Institute for British Architects (RIBA) in London.

Caruso St John have firmly established a reputation as leaders in the field of gallery design, both nationally and internationally.  They transformed the College’s Edwardian stables into the Heong Gallery space, which opened earlier this year, and which was itself shortlisted for an RIBA award.
