Downing College welcomes Executive MBA (EMBA) students

As the method of study and rhythm of the academic year is somewhat different to other degrees, it is hoped that the following information will give a brief introduction to studying for the Executive MBA (EMBA) at Downing College.

If you have any questions, please contact Graduate Admissions Officer, Downing College by email.

MCR

EMBA students become part of the Middle Combination Room (MCR) a multi-disciplinary, culturally diverse and international community, closely integrated into the academic and social life of the College.

If you would like a tour of the College with a member of the MCR (a graduate student) at the beginning of the academic year (1 October), please contact the MCR directly.

Graduate Tutors for the EMBA

A Graduate Tutor is responsible for the pastoral care of our EMBA students and are able to represent them in official contacts with the central administration of the University.

It is in each student's best interest to inform their Tutor as soon as any illness or difficulty occurs which is likely to affect study or examination performance. In such cases, Tutors help to deal with health or other personal problems and are in a position to assist with special needs or disabilities. Contact your Tutors by email when required. In an emergency contact the Tutorial & Admissions Office (+44 (0)1223 334811) or the Porters’ Lodge (+44 (0)1223 334800).

The College Director of Studies (the Fellow of Downing College – or other senior member of the university - who is responsible for overseeing a student’s academic studies) for Management Studies at Downing College is Prof Bart Lambrecht.

Accommodation

Your orientation week (September) accommodation will be booked for you by the Judge Business School. As a member of Downing College you are entitled to book guest rooms for when you are in Cambridge for your course, as well as at any other time. Our accommodation is limited and guest rooms are booked up quickly, so it is important that you book your room as soon you know your requirements. Please contact the Accommodation Officer by email.

Access to College

[Please note: as of the end of the Easter Term 2023, Kitchen Yard Gate access will no longer be available to any students,  this includes EMBA students] As an EMBA student at Downing, you will be given special pedestrian access to and from the Judge Business School via the Kitchen Yard entrance gate (University Card access only).  The gate is located between Howard Lodge and the Gym on the Domus Plan.  Please be mindful of the traffic on Tennis Court Road and in the Kitchen Yard.

College Charges

As part of your College membership you are entitled to a College account in order to charge items such as guest room accommodation and College meals. As with all students at Downing, to activate your College account you are required to pay a College surety on your first bill at the beginning of the Michaelmas term. The College Surety will be refunded to you at the end of your period of study.  College bills are issued at the beginning of each term.

Please contact the Bursary via senior-accounts-clerk@dow.cam.ac.uk in order to arrange for this facility to be activated.

Your University Card

You will be issued with your University Card by the Judge Business School during your Orientation week in September. Your University card gives you access to services and facilities.

Alumni Events

Alumni events take place in Cambridge, London, USA, Hong Kong and other destinations across the world. Executive MBA students are added to the mailing list of Alumni events now, rather than after graduation, to allow you to access these wider events. You will be warmly welcomed.

As an EMBA, you would usually graduate together with the rest of the Executive MBA cohort in April. An application form must be completed and returned in order to be entered for graduation.
