COVID conversations

Students who are concerned about the risks posed by the COVID situation are invited to discuss these with their Tutor, Graduate Tutor, or with the College Nurses.

College Nurses

Access to nurse appointments will be via Moodle and will be telephone consultations (and in some circumstances via Zoom).

Please note: No face-to-face appointments with the College Nurses are available at this current time. Please do not come to the Nurses' room in College for an appointment.

From Tuesday 19 January 2021 onwards, the College Nurses are once again in a position to offer routine telephone appointments, which will be released on Moodle in two week batches.  Therefore, if you would like to book a routine appointment with a College Nurse, please sign-up for an appointment time below.  You should also provide a contact telephone number to enable a Nurse to contact you.

Please note, telephone appointments may overrun, but please be patient as the Nurses will get to everyone as soon as possible.

If your enquiry is urgent, please call the College Nurses directly on (01223) 334817 within working hours (please see below).  Alternatively, please call 999 in an emergency.

Appointments via Zoom can be arranged as required on request.

Nurse appointments on Moodle

The Moodle appointments should run as follows in 15 minute telephone slots between these times:

  • Monday: 10am - 2pm
  • Tuesday: 9.30am - 2pm
  • Wednesday: 9.30am - 2pm
  • Thursday: 9am - 3pm
  • Friday: 10am - 4pm

You can contact the College Nurses by email on and we will try to respond to you within our working hours.

If you need to speak to the nurses in person, please telephone on (+44 1223 334817).

Please note:

  • The College Nurses are not the first port of call for emergencies and do not have an answering service.
  • If you need medical advice outside of these hours contact your GP, most of whom are currently carrying out telephone ‘triage’, or call the 111 service.
  • If you are going into self-isolation, due to contact with someone with COVID-19 or have symptoms, or are starting quarantine due to current laws on travel, please follow the university procedure on reporting this by contacting the Downing College Porters’ Lodge on telephone (01223) 334800, and only after you have used the NHS COVID-19 Symptom checker.
  • If you develop COVID-19 symptoms, call NHS 111 and contact the Porters' Lodge to let them know.

Group wellbeing support under Covid

With the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic and lockdown, group wellbeing support will be offered in Lent Term in the form of weekly Reach-Out Rooms held on Zoom.

Reach-Out Rooms are facilitated discussion groups offering a forum for social connection and peer support. If you are feeling lonely or demotivated under lockdown or struggling to adjust to studying remotely, come along and share your wellbeing experiences, tips and ideas.

Reach-Out Rooms will take place 1pm to 2pm every Wednesday during full term. To attend one or all of the sessions, please email for the Zoom link.
