Arthur Henry Waymouth was born at Westcliff-on-Sea, Essex on 19 June 1913, the only child of John Kennerley Waymouth, an auctioneer, and Angelina (nee Benson) of 69 Elderton Road (later of 38 St Vincents Road), Westcliff-on-Sea in Essex. He was educated at Uppingham School, where he was in Lorne House from May 1927 to December 1931, and was a member of the 1st Rugby XV. He entered Downing College in 1932, where he was familiarly known as Henry. He studied Medicine and represented the College at Rugby, gaining Colours. He left Downing to complete his clinical training at St Bartholomew’s Hospital, London, and was in his final year by 1939. In June 1941, he married June Maude Dorothy Petit in Westminster.
Henry was commissioned as a Lieutenant in the Royal Army Medical Corps on 11 September 1941. He was later attached to the 47th Indian Field Ambulance, Indian Army Medical Corps, and promoted to the rank of Major. He was Mentioned in Despatches, announced on 16 December 1943, "In recognition of distinguished services on the Burma and on the Eastern frontier of India". The 47th Indian Field Ambulance arrived in the town of Shillong in eastern India on 8 August 1944. Waymouth was second in command of the unit, taking command temporarily from 4 to 28 September.
On 8 November 1944, Major Waymouth was admitted to the British Military Hospital in Shillong. He died of illness on 10 November 1944, aged 31. He is buried at Gauhati War Cemetery and also commemorated on the war memorial at Uppingham School.
