The standard quota on Hermes is 2GB. If you allow the mail to build up until the quota is completely used then you may not be able to delete any mail.
In this case you can follow the steps below to delete items directly without trying to move them to the Trash first.
- Log in to Hermes.
- Click on 'Settings.'
- Select 'Preferences' from the left hand list.
- Select 'Server Settings' from the middle list.
- On the right hand 'Main Options' screen put a tick against 'If moving messages to "Trash" fails, permanently delete them.
You should now be able to delete mail that is no longer required.
You can apply to increase your Hermes quota via the University website.
