On Monday 27th February, the Blake Society at Downing College hosted Dr Edward Wilson-Lee, who talked about his book ‘Shakespeare in Swahililand’.
Dr Wilson-Lee recounted some brilliant, surprising stories about colonial explorers in Africa and the ensuing popularity of Shakespeare there, earning him the title of ‘the global poet’. For many who attended, this was very much new territory - a poet so familiar but in unfamiliar places.
As far as receptions of literature go, this was a highly entertaining one.
