Professor Geoffrey Grimmett elected as next Master

We are delighted to announce the election of Professor Geoffrey Grimmett D.Phil., D.Sc. to be the 17th Master of Downing College. He will take office at the beginning of October following the retirement of Professor Barry Everitt Sc.D., F.R.S., F.Med.Sci., who has been Master since 2003.

Professor Grimmett is the Professor of Mathematical Statistics and currently a Fellow of Churchill College. His research interests lie in the field of probability and statistics; he enjoys playing the harpsichord and hiking in deserts and mountain ranges around the world. He is married to Rosine and has a son, Hugo, who is studying for a D.Phil. at Oxford.
